Fortnite Override today: Suppressing Fire, Health Siphon, and Bounty Hunter Sprites
Fortnite’s Override calendar lands a dated window on Thursday, 24 September 2026. Epic’s v42.20 Battle Royale update notes, published on the Fortnite Communities site, explicitly stamp three same-day beats for that Thursday: the Suppressing Fire Match Override, the Health Siphon Match Override, and the arrival of Bounty Hunter Sprite variants.
Match Overrides are Epic’s temporary rule twists for Battle Royale — they change how a match plays without rewriting the whole loot pool. The Sep 24 lines sit inside the wider v42.20 Override list Epic already shipped; they are the ones Epic dated to “next Thursday, September 24.” This explainer covers every Override detail Epic published for that window.
Primary source: v42.20 Fortnite Override: Battle Royale Update Notes (Fortnite Communities / Epic).
Suppressing Fire
Epic’s Sep 24 Override line for Suppressing Fire is short and absolute: all ranged weapons have increased mag size and infinite ammo.
That is the whole published rule. Epic does not list a percentage mag-size buff, does not carve out exceptions for specific weapon classes in the Sep 24 line, and does not publish a separate duration outside the Override window itself. In practical terms, the Override removes the usual ammo-economy pressure on ranged fights for as long as Suppressing Fire is the active Match Override: magazines run larger, and ammo does not run out.
Epic’s Suppressing Fire sentence does not mention build limits, movement, or Storm timing — those systems are unchanged by this line.
Health Siphon
Epic’s Sep 24 Override line for Health Siphon is equally direct: dealing damage restores your health.
Epic does not publish a heal-per-damage ratio, a shield-versus-health split, or a cap in that Sep 24 sentence. The published effect is that damage you deal feeds your health back. In a Siphon lobby, aggressive gunfights carry a sustain reward that ordinary Battle Royale matches do not.
The primary text ties the restore to dealing damage, not to elimination-only heal rules from older limited-time modes. Epic’s Sep 24 line does not say otherwise.
Bounty Hunter Sprite variants
Epic’s second Sep 24 date line covers Sprites, not Match Overrides. On Thursday, 24 September, Bounty Hunter Sprite variants join the fray. Epic’s description: these combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations.
That is the full Sep 24 Sprite package in the primary note. Epic does not list individual Bounty Hunter Sprite names, drop rates, or max levels in that paragraph. The published spawn condition and leveling rule are: a chance to appear on eliminations, leveling up only from eliminations.
For players already running the Sprite loop from v42.20, the Sep 24 change is a combat-flavored variant path tied to eliminations rather than a replacement of Pond Sprite, Crash Bandicoot Sprite, Blinky Sprite, or the later Birthday Sprite (available starting Saturday, 26 September). Those other Sprites are part of the wider v42.20 Sprite section; they are not dated to Sep 24 the way Bounty Hunter variants are.
How Sep 24 sits inside the wider Override list
Epic’s v42.20 notes list other Match Overrides in the same section — Recovery, Level Up, Dynamic Storm, Super Shot, Big Boom, and Healing Overdrive — without dating those six to September 24. They are context for the Override menu, not today’s exclusive slate.
- Recovery (Squad & Match-Wide): Eliminating a player with any weapon drops healing orbs.
- Level Up (Squad): Spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key for each squad member at their current location.
- Dynamic Storm: The fewer players left standing, the faster the Storm closes in.
- Super Shot: While firing bullets, your weapon will occasionally launch a rocket instead.
- Big Boom: Land from a height with no fall damage, dealing area-of-effect damage to opponents; the longer the drop, the bigger the explosion.
- Healing Overdrive: Healing triggers the Overdrive effect.
None of those six carry the “Coming next Thursday, September 24” stamp that Suppressing Fire, Health Siphon, and Bounty Hunter Sprite variants do.
What Epic did not publish for Sep 24
Epic’s Sep 24 Override lines do not publish exact UTC live timestamps beyond the calendar date, do not publish mag-size percentages for Suppressing Fire, do not publish Siphon ratios for Health Siphon, and do not publish a named roster or drop table for Bounty Hunter Sprite variants. Those gaps stay gaps.
The same Epic post also covers the wider v42.20 Kingdom Hearts loot drop, Loot Hack refresh, Zero Build Pocket Item rotation, Tetris Tower objective, Sprite Mastery Back Bling, Cheat Code rarity rewrite, Mastery Track rewards, Power Hours, and subregion matchmaking merge. Those systems are in the notes; they are not the Sep 24-dated Override lines this piece covers.
Who this hits
Battle Royale lobbies that roll Suppressing Fire play a ranged ammo-free gunfight ruleset with larger magazines. Lobbies that roll Health Siphon reward damage with health return. Players hunting Sprites on Sep 24 gain a Bounty Hunter variant path that can appear on eliminations and levels only from eliminations. Competitive and pub stacks that plan loadouts around ammo scarcity or mid-fight sustain have to treat those two Overrides as first-class rules when they appear, not as flavor text.
Why it matters
Same-day Override windows are easy to miss in a patch-notes wall. Epic’s primary text is clear about what is dated to 24 September: Suppressing Fire’s infinite ammo and increased mag size on all ranged weapons, Health Siphon’s damage-to-health restore, and Bounty Hunter Sprite variants that spawn on elims and level only from elims. That is the complete Sep 24 Override detail set Epic published — focused here so players know what can twist today’s matches without drowning the date line in the rest of v42.20.
