ARC Raiders Frozen Trail First Look: Pendola Pass, Frigate, and Oct 8 drop
Embark Studios published its Frozen Trail First Look on 23 September 2026, framing the Frozen Trail / Frozen Trail 2.0 update as the next big Topside frontier beyond the Rust Belt. Softcap’s desk is sticking to Embark’s official First Look page plus the studio’s Games Press release: the update lands free on 8 October 2026 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

Games Press clocks the update to ARC Raiders’ first anniversary window and cites more than 16 million copies sold in year one. Softcap is not inventing concurrent-player or revenue figures beyond that press line.
Pendola Pass
Celeste and Shani have triangulated a strange Toledo signal to Pendola Pass — an old Italian village and Exodus transport hub beyond the peaks that envelope the Rust Belt. Embark’s First Look names a supermarket, a lifeless town square, an observatory, and a buried train depot. The reason Raiders are called there: one of the Emperors has fallen. Rare technology sits inside; the job is get there and find a way in.
Games Press adds map-systems Softcap is treating as Confirmed from that release:
- Flash Freeze weather that can sweep the map and force players into Avalanche Shelters (shelter + loot, also a PvP magnet)
- Ballistic Gondola extraction — call it in, board fast, three Raiders max
- Minor map condition Redirection (Pendola Pass exclusive): pull Harvester Payloads toward your Transmitter, then defend against ARC and rivals
The First Look page itself stresses scrambled ARC response and brutal flash freezes cutting the valley. Softcap is not inventing spawn tables or freeze timers beyond those published beats.
Frigate
A fallen Emperor is unprecedented, so ARC sends one of its largest vessels — Raiders call it the Frigate. Embark’s pitch: get aboard, navigate internal passageways, unlock paths, and fight ARC new and old in close quarters hundreds of feet up. Other Raiders want the same prize, so collaboration and conflict both sit on the table. Softcap is not inventing Frigate loot tables or matchmaking rules the primaries do not publish.
New ARC: Bully, Skulker, Hydra
| Enemy | Embark’s published fantasy |
|---|---|
| Bully | Machine-learned, oppressive, aggressive — gallops onto your position with a host of lethal attacks; cover, timing, and accuracy matter |
| Skulker | Opportunistic — skirts vision, waits for a distraction, unleashes a flurry, retreats, then hits again when you look away |
| Hydra | Non-traversing but mobile turret split into three stacked autonomous portions; triple-threat weaponry aboard the Frigate; divert attention, find cover, strike in windows |
Games Press adds that Hydra can target multiple players at once and respawn. Softcap is not inventing HP values or recommended loadouts.
Outpost and Amplified Weapons
Celeste offers explorers a home away from home: the Outpost, nestled between the Rust Belt and the mountain range — framed as the first step to reclaiming parts of the surface. Customize modules and furniture; the Research Workstation unlocks higher weapon customization and modding for the journey beyond the peaks. Embark calls the Outpost the start of a feature it hopes to deepen into a personal Raider space.
Amplified Weapons is the late-game systems flag. A fully upgraded Research Workstation opens a fifth quality level for a published range of guns — branching abilities and enhancements that can change behavior, not just bump a number. Embark’s examples: a fully automatic Burletta, a scoped Renegade, or a Rattler with incendiary rounds and a 64-round magazine. The feature ships for 15 weapons at launch, with more planned. Games Press labels the same idea Weapon Amplification via a Research Station.
Stiletto and Bantam
| Weapon | Ammo / role (First Look) |
|---|---|
| Stiletto | Light-ammo battle rifle; early-game alternative to the Renegade; cheap to craft; distance shots; mash for fire rate, lose accuracy |
| Bantam | Snub-nosed heavy-ammo revolver; punches ARC and Raiders; unique hip-fire for the cowboy fantasy |
Softcap is not inventing DPS tables, unlock costs, or tier lists the First Look does not publish.
Grapple, tethers, camera, instruments
Grappling Hook is the mobility headline: climb hard-to-reach spots, abseil off buildings, swing gaps. Embark groups it with a larger tethers and constraints system:
- Tether Launcher — connect two points with wire; root targets or attach Raiders to ARC and watch the drag
- Yank Grenade — on explode, violently pulls a nearby target; smash flying ARC to the ground or yank Raiders out of cover
The Camera gadget launches with zoom, aperture, manual/automatic focus racking, and selfie mode with custom emotes; shots save to the Codex. Weapon Stencils re-skin guns without changing stats — and Embark notes rivals who beat you can take a personalized weapon with them.
Instruments shipping Topside this October: Harmonica and Banjo (Banjo blueprint in the Collector Set DLC).
Reward Pass and Collector Set
Frozen Trail launches a Reward Pass — Embark’s evolution of Raider Decks:
| Track | Published rewards / access |
|---|---|
| Free Pass | Unlocked via Feats — includes 200 Raider Tokens, five new outfits, gameplay items, and 20 cosmetics (Scrappy outfits, furniture, charms, attachments, emotes) |
| Premium Pass | Premium outfit toggles, exclusive colorways, weapon stencils, hairstyles, 1,150 Raider Tokens |
| Legacy Pass | Free for all Raiders — combines existing Raider Decks so progress is not lost |
Games Press adds structure Softcap treats as Confirmed from that release: 60 Reward Pass levels; Premium unlockable in the in-game store for 1,150 Raider Tokens or via the Collector Set; 50 additional Premium rewards; 1,350 total Raider Tokens across Free + Premium completion.
The Collector Set DLC (same Oct 8 window) bundles Free + Premium Reward Pass access with the Renzo cosmetic set, Dragon’s Breath Weapon Stencil, Bob hairstyle, and 2,400 Raider Tokens.
Also shipping Oct 8
Embark’s First Look closer lists more systems without full changelogs Softcap can table yet:
- New questlines and an improved quest system (Games Press: bonus XP for optional objectives)
- Skill Tree rework — new and improved skills
- New Map Condition (Games Press names Redirection on Pendola Pass)
- Trials Season 6 (Games Press)
Dev Q&A livestream: Friday 25 September, 18:00 CEST — questions on the First Look event.
Why it matters
Frozen Trail is a map-and-systems First Look, not a balance spreadsheet. The playable flags are Pendola Pass, the Frigate, three new ARC, and Outpost Amplification; the economy flags are the Reward Pass tracks and Collector Set. Softcap is not inventing meta tiers, extract success rates, or Amplification win-rate claims ahead of the 8 October ship.
What to watch next
Whether the 25 September Q&A nails Flash Freeze timing, Frigate matchmaking, and Amplification’s first 15-gun list with hard numbers; whether Oct 8 patch notes expand Redirection / Trials Season 6 beyond the press sheet; and any same-week hotfix traffic once Pendola Pass is live Topside.
