WARDOGS Season 1 explained: Early Access economy, Patch 0.11 browser split, Season 02 on Oct 15
BULKHEAD and Team17 put WARDOGS into Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026 as Season 1 — a 100-player, three-team Control Zone shooter that has since sat near the top of Steam’s concurrent charts. Softcap’s first WARDOGS desk piece sticks to Bulkhead’s Steam primaries: the Pre-Load / Season 1 Changelog, same-day Launch Stability Hotfix #1, Patch 0.11’s Community vs Official browser split, the studio’s 2 million copies sold snapshot, and the Season 02 teaser dated 15 October 2026. Softcap is not inventing live concurrent peaks beyond what those posts publish.
Primary sources: Pre-Load Live & Season 1 Changelog, Launch Stability Hotfix #1, SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE & PATCH 0.11, 2 MILLION COPIES SOLD, and WARDOGS | Season 02 Teaser (Steam News, app 1867240).

What Season 1 is selling
Team17’s public pitch and the Steam store page describe the same spine Softcap is covering: all-out warfare FPS with gunplay, vehicles, building, and destruction; three teams fighting for a randomised Control Zone inside a much larger map; first team to 100 points wins. Every player starts with $10,000, buys loadouts per life, and keeps cash across matches. Softcap is not inventing map names, round timers, or unpublished unlock ladders beyond Bulkhead’s Season 1 changelog tables.
Season 1 changelog: progression after the betas
Bulkhead’s Season 1 post is explicit about the design problem: beta XP curves were built for weekend-long tests. The Early Access curve is meant for a live season. Published intent in the notes: median players at 20–25 hours land around level 20; players chasing big-ticket unlocks (Bulkhead’s “top 5%”) will need to grind. Each season is promised a different XP curve and item order.

Bulkhead’s Driver reshuffle is framed as a “satisfying escalation through attack vehicles.” Softcap reprints the Confirmed rows above and does not invent time-to-unlock estimates beyond the studio’s own median-level framing.
Vehicles, voice, reporting, stability in the Season 1 package
Beyond economy tables, the Season 1 changelog publishes:
- Exploits: fixed an unintended church roof position
- Reporting: weighted reports so repeat / bad-faith reporters carry less influence; cheater bans announced in-server when match termination is off; kick message only if actually banned
- Server browser (pre-0.11): reworked filtering; community server image scaling fix; Host button links to the hosting page
- Voice: permanent cutouts after failed joins fixed; visible communication status; reliability under load
- Vehicles: Z20 Lakota balance pass and sluggish-pitch fix; helicopter input damping on every device; vehicle turrets get a maximum operator rotation speed; 155 mm / 122 mm / flare deployables take more loadout room; tank aiming DPI fix; Lakota chase-camera rattle down 6 dB
- Performance: DLSS Frame Generation toggle without restart; shadow quality clamped to Low on high benchmark scores instead of off; multiple crash-path closes
Those are Confirmed changelog lines — Softcap is not turning them into unpublished FPS or TTK claims.
Launch Stability Hotfix #1
About four hours after the Early Access unlock, Bulkhead forced a client restart and staged login batches. Published targets:
- Players unable to join servers
- Players unexpectedly kicked mid-match
- Extended login queue times
No balance, price, or progression changes are listed in that Steam post.
Patch 0.11: Community vs Official browsers
On 14 September 2026, Bulkhead took servers down for about one hour from 08:00 UTC for Patch 0.11. The studio’s own framing: Community Servers had been underserved, and the browser experience was poor. Published browser changes:
| Change | Detail |
|---|---|
| Split browsers | Separate Community and Official front ends |
| Official filters | Removed — Bulkhead says Official has no modified modes yet |
| Community filters | Reliability pass + text search |
| Persistent IDs | Community server IDs survive map changes / restarts (longer IDs for security) |
| Quick bar | Show Empty/Full |
| Naming | Alphabetical ordering rules; no more than one space at a time |
| Apology bonus | 5% End of Match cash on community servers for one week |
| Capacity | Increased Asia server capacity |
| Other fixes | Various cash exploits; more GPU crash addresses |
Bulkhead also published an economy-abuse stance in the same post:
- Cash exploit abuse → timed ban + cash and XP reset to 0
- Content that tutorialises economy exploits without reporting → treated like advertising cheats → permanent ban
- XP farming servers → permanent ban if the account is tracked joining for more than a few minutes
Pipeline features listed as not ready yet: community favouriting, tiered priority queues, MOTD prompt, improved warmup, AFK-kick seeding controls, team-switching controls. Softcap treats that list as Confirmed intent, not a ship date.
The 0.11 notes also thank players for helping the game hit 400,000 peak concurrent users — a Bulkhead-published figure Softcap reprints as such.
Two million copies, then Season 02
On 15 September, Bulkhead’s Steam post led with 2 MILLION COPIES SOLD and a launch-weekend stats still. Softcap does not invent additional sales or peak columns beyond that graphic and the surrounding post.
On 22 September, Bulkhead posted WARDOGS | Season 02 Teaser with a single Confirmed date line: 15th October 2026. The teaser post does not publish a full feature, map, or economy changelog. Softcap will cover Season 02 systems when Bulkhead ships numbered notes — not from trailer speculation.
Who it hits
| Player type | What the Confirmed notes change |
|---|---|
| Casual / median grind | Levels 10–20 cost far more XP than Closed Beta; Bulkhead’s own median target is ~level 20 at 20–25 hours |
| Vehicle mains | Heavy Tank gated to Driver 35; Artillery pushed to Career 90; Driver ladder reshuffled |
| FOB / builder players | Forward Operating Base and Large Hammer vendor prices up “so they are more of a choice” |
| Community server hosts / joiners | Patch 0.11 split browsers, persistent IDs, search, and a one-week 5% cash bonus |
| Exploit / farm chase | Published ban ladder for cash exploits, tutorialising content, and XP farms |
| Season hoppers | Softcap’s next Confirmed hook is the 15 Oct Season 02 window — details TBD in future Bulkhead notes |
