Overwatch September explained: Sep 8 balance, D.Mon follow-ups, Sep 22 Team Drives fix
Blizzard’s September Overwatch live archive now closes a clear three-week arc: a large 8 September retail balance patch, two same-week hotfixes on 10 and 17 September, and a short 22 September bug-fix update that cleans Team Drives UI and Ashe’s Metalcore scope. Softcap’s earlier Sep 22 draft sat held until that retail post was unambiguous on the official live archive — it is now listed. This explainer sticks to Blizzard’s September 2026 live patch notes.
Primary source: Overwatch Live Patch Notes — September 2026.
Same-week close: Sep 22 bug fix
Blizzard labels 22 September a bug fix update. Replay codes have been wiped.
Published general fixes:
- Team Drives titles now show the correct text instead of placeholders
- Drive Signature prestige levels no longer change after participating in Team Drives
- Scope issue on Ashe’s Metalcore skin corrected
That is the full Sep 22 change list in the live archive. Softcap is not inventing additional Team Drives balance or Ashe weapon tuning beyond the Metalcore scope fix.
Sep 17 hotfix: D.Mon pulled back again
Five days after the Sep 8 sheet, Blizzard posted another hotfix. Replay codes from the September 8 patch remain available.
D.Mon takes the headline:
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Armor (5v5) | 325 → 275 |
| Armor (6v6) | 300 → 250 |
| Focused Fusion (Major Perk) damage per bullet | 45 → 36 |
| Propulsors fuel drain rate | 25 → 30 |
| Fusion Repeater damage | 16 → 15 |
| Fusion Repeater cooldown | 4 → 5 seconds |
Stadium: Blizzard fixed a gameplay issue with Mercy in Stadium and re-enabled her in all Stadium queues.
Sep 10 hotfix trio
An earlier hotfix on 10 September (replay codes from Sep 8 still available) shipped three published fixes:
- Ramattra — Ravenous Vortex: resolved unintended extra delay before detonation
- Jetpack Cat — Purr: no longer goes through enemy barriers
- Vendetta — Palatine Fang: range issue in some instances corrected
Sep 8 retail: Junkrat’s Loot Hunt window
The 8 September retail notes open on an event, not a hero line. Junkrat’s Loot Hunt goes Legendary with a specially themed twist for three weeks starting 12 September and running until 29 September. Softcap is covering that published window only — Blizzard’s post does not list a full Loot Hunt loot table in the same paragraph.
Sep 8 tanks: D.Mon, D.Va, Domina, Mauga, Winston, Wrecking Ball, Zarya
D.Mon (developer comments: strong since launch). Blizzard shortens Call Mech transformation toward D.Va’s timing, tightens Portable Fusion Repeater for closer accuracy / weaker long range, and cuts Plasma Saber damage to offset those improvements.
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Armor (6v6) | 325 → 300 |
| Plasma Saber damage | 65 → 60 |
| Power Barrier cast time | 0.065s → 0.016s; side shield notches reduced in size |
| Call Mech transformation | 1.95 → 0.95 seconds; new 1-second first-person bootup animation |
| Portable Fusion Repeater spread | 2 → 1.75 degrees |
| Portable Fusion Repeater min falloff | 30 → 20 meters |
D.Va: Mech base health 175 → 200 (5v5). Developer intent: more durability without touching Defense Matrix.
Domina: Ultimate cost reduced by 6% — Blizzard says the ult was disruptive but not always consequential for the charge time.
Mauga: Armor and dual-fire reach both come down.
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Base armor | 150 → 125 |
| Max spread, single gun | 1.5 → 1 degree (revert) |
| Max spread, both guns | 4 → 5 degrees |
| Dual-fire damage falloff min range | 15 → 10 meters |
Winston — Barrier Projector (5v5): cooldown 12 → 10 seconds; duration 8 → 7 seconds.
Wrecking Ball — Adaptive Barrier: duration 1.5 → 1 second.
Zarya — Particle Barrier (5v5): cooldown 11 → 12 seconds. Developer notes say Projected Barrier is unchanged, pushing more proactive ally barrier use. (The live archive lists this change immediately after Wrecking Ball; Softcap attributes it to Zarya from Blizzard’s Particle Barrier developer comment.)
Sep 8 damage: Freja, Junkrat, Sierra, Symmetra, Torbjörn, Vendetta, more
Anran: reduced visual effects enemies see from Dancing Blaze; Vermillion Revival cast time 3 → 2.5 seconds.
Freja (developer: recent changes spiked damage):
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Relentless Barrage (Minor Perk) refunded bolts | 8 → 5 |
| Revdraw Crossbow damage | 30 → 28 |
| Explosive Bolt explosion damage | 80 → 75; impact SFX reduced |
Junkrat: Concussion Mine cooldown 8 → 7 seconds; Nitro Boost (Minor Perk) bonus speed 125% → 100%.
Sierra: Helix Rifle projectile speed 90 → 120, damage 9 → 8.5; Tracking Shot damage 9 → 8.5; Tremor Charge cooldown 8.5 → 7 seconds.
Symmetra — Teleporter: placement range 30 → 25 meters; reuse cooldown 1 → 1.25 seconds.
Torbjörn: Rivet Gun secondary spread 4.5 → 4 degrees; Anchor Bolts (Major Perk) turret throw-range bonus 50% → 25%.
Vendetta: primary-fire responsiveness up, overall combo pace held with longer recoveries.
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Palatine Fang initial swing delay | 0.3 → 0.15 seconds |
| Horizontal swing duration | 0.25 → 0.2 seconds |
| Combo link duration | 0.75 → 0.9 seconds |
| Whirlwind Dash recovery | 0.5 → 0.75 seconds |
| Sundering Blade recovery | 0.2 → 0.5 seconds; camera pitch no longer fully locked |
Widowmaker: Take Aim charge SFX updated for default, Mythic, and Hello Kitty weapons — intensity rises above 50% charge.
Sep 8 supports: Baptiste, Brigitte, Jetpack Cat, Kiriko, Wuyang, Zenyatta
Baptiste — Immortality Field: unkillable threshold 20% → 25%; cooldown 22 → 20 seconds; health 125 → 150.
Brigitte: health 200 → 175; armor 50 → 75 — Blizzard frames this as shifting durability into armor for a close-range support.
Jetpack Cat:
| System | Published change |
|---|---|
| Movement / Frenetic Flight audio | Increased sound priority and volume |
| Biotic Pawjectiles damage and healing | 4.5 → 4 per projectile |
| Lifeline | Stuns / mobility locks on a carried target now disconnect Lifeline; allies auto-accept Lifeline over a death plane |

| Healing Ofuda max seeking range | 35 → 30 meters |
| Protection Suzu phased invuln | 0.65 → 0.5 seconds |
| Protection Suzu explosion radius | 5 → 4 meters |
Wuyang — Restorative Stream: regeneration 12.5% → 15% per second; line-of-sight timeout 5 → 3 seconds.
Zenyatta — Harmony Orb: line-of-sight timeout 5 → 3 seconds.
Stadium powers and Sep 8 bug fixes
Stadium power tweaks in the same Sep 8 post:
| Hero / power | Published change |

| D.Va — MEKA Ejector | Ult charge cost reduction 50% → 60% |
| Junker Queen — Cut ’Em Gracie | Return damage 40 → 30 |
| Genji | Cooldown reduction per target 2 → 2.5 seconds |
| Vendetta — Apex Bloodlust | Lifesteal per stack 5% → 4% |
| Ana | Attack speed bonus 30% → 50%; ult charge gain 25% → 10% |
| Jetpack Cat — Territorial | Damage 30% → 20% of healing |

What Blizzard did not publish
The September live archive does not publish Team Drives win/loss math, Ashe Metalcore damage numbers, a full Junkrat’s Loot Hunt drop table, or ranked distribution shifts after the Sep 8 sheet. Softcap does not invent those.
Who this hits
Competitive and ranked stacks that built around D.Mon durability take two published armor/output passes (Sep 8 then Sep 17). Support players on Kiriko, Baptiste, Jetpack Cat, Wuyang, and Zenyatta have concrete number moves; damage players on Freja, Sierra, Vendetta, and Symmetra get the matching sheet. Arcade and event players still have Junkrat’s Loot Hunt through 29 September. Team Drives players on Sep 22 finally get correct titles and stable Drive Signature prestige levels.
Why it matters
September’s Overwatch live notes are a balance sheet with a cleanup coda, not a single hero launch. The playable flag is the Sep 8 hero pass plus D.Mon’s Sep 17 follow-up; the systems flag is Stadium Mercy’s Sep 17 re-enable and the Sep 22 Team Drives / Metalcore bug fix. Softcap reprints Blizzard’s published numbers and leaves meta tiers off the page.
